Schedule a Meeting with Your Senator and Representatives

It is more important than ever for our national and local policy makers to know that their constituents support refugee resettlement. Between February 18 and 26, all U.S. Senators and Representatives will be in their home states and districts, making those dates perfect times for you to meet with them. Please find here a helpful toolkit with sample letters and a step-by-step guide to setting up these meetings. It is helpful to put in request letters / emails NOW for meetings that you would like to take place during the week of February 18 and 26.

The next major in-district time will be April 7- 24, which is around Passover and Easter, so it is important that we take advantage of this February in-district time. We encourage you to meet with refugee leaders, staff, volunteers, donors, faith leaders, immigrant rights groups, and other supporters and allies to plan for these meetings so that you can show the breadth and depth of support for refugee resettlement. We also encourage you to work with these allies to set up similar meetings with your state legislators and local officials, as it will be very important for these local policy makers to be lifting up their support for refugee resettlement.

Welcome refugees in your community

There’s so much you can do to help a refugee feel safe and comfortable in their new home. Help create welcoming communities by volunteering at the CWS refugee resettlement office nearest to you.

Opportunities may include serving as a language partner, assisting with school registration, accompanying a family grocery shopping, or mobilizing your faith community as a welcome team for an arriving family.
