URGENT: Tell Congress that the U.S. Must Welcome People Seeking Protection
Background: Earlier this month, the Pueblo Sin Fronteras caravan of 1,100 people fleeing violence in Central America began a long journey to the United States to seek protection. This weekend, about 50 people arrived at the southern border seeking asylum. Rather than uphold our faithful responsibility to protect those seeking refuge, our nation closed our doors to them, as Customs & Border Protection (CBP) officials said the facility to process asylum seekers was full. As we affirm the right of all people to seek asylum and protections at the U.S. border, it is critical that we tell Congress to prioritize the protection of vulnerable individuals and ensure they do everything in their power to see the administration process and welcome asylum seekers.
